Yahaya Bello’s tax regime exploitative – Goodman Akwu

The former All Progressives Grand Alliance gubernatorial candidate in Kogi state, Chief Goodman Akwu has stated that Kogi has enough mineral resources that would generate its internal revenues, tagging the current tax regime in the State as exploitative.

He was speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, after the party’s meeting on the ongoing voters registration exercise. He explained that the current tax regime by governor Yahaya Bello-led administration was exploitative, adding that economic activities in the state was too low.

“If mineral resources available are exploited, Kogi should not be waiting for federal allocations, besides, where citizens are forced to pay higher taxes despite low economic activities are uncalled for”, he said.

“At last count, 29 mineral deposits including oil and gold are found out of which only 3 are currently exploited, which is gibson, coal and stone,” he added.

He noted that Kogi is a civil service state, passing through harrowing experiences occasioned by lack of sincerity and broad daylight deceit of the current administration.

He called on the citizens above 18 years to avail themselves for voter registration exercise, saying it gives them the power to change government at the appropriate time.

“I want to call on those above 18 years not to undermine the potency of PVC, as it remains the only medium to remove bad government and install good governance in the state,” he said.
