YABATECH sacks Bursar

The Governing Council of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has terminated the appointment of the institution’s bursar, Mr Olugbenga Ibirogba.

The bursar’s sack was contained in a statement issued in Lagos by the Head, Public Relations Unit of the college, Mr Charles Oni.

The statement said the action against the bursar followed his decision to take the college to court after his suspension for allegedly instigating some members of staff to write petitions against the authorities.

He had also failed to appear before a disciplinary committee set up by the council to investigate his case.

“The Public Service rules state inter alia: Members of staff shall not communicate with any outside persons or agency on a matter being processed through the laid down machinery.

“A breach of this regulation shall be regarded as a serious act of indiscipline,’’ the statement further said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ibirogba was suspended by the college’s authorities on Oct. 7, 2013, for unauthorised disclosure of official information.

NAN also reports that the bursar’s refusal to appear before the Disciplinary Panel set up by the Council led to his suspension.

However, Igirogba took his case to the National Industrial Court which declared the suspension null and void.

The court also awarded the payment of N250, 000 as general damages, and ordered the payment of backlog of salaries and allowances while the suspension lasted.

The Council had said it respected the court’s judgment but would exercise its right of appeal. (NAN)
