Students, staff and members of Yaba College of Technology community yesterday enthusiastically received the team from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to the campus for the second Lagos Zonal Office edition of CONSUMER CONVERSATION.
Kenneth Uzoekwe, the Zonal Controller, Lagos Operations who represented Professor Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of Nigerian Communications Commission at the event told the audience that the programme is part of the activities designed by NCC to give concrete expression to its declaration of 2017 as YEAR OF THE TELECOM CONSUMER.
The Consumer Conversation is a special discourse among stakeholders in the telecom sector meant to interrogate the challenges of the consumer, and to exchange information on the steps taken by NCC to address the challenges of telecom service provisioning in order to improve the quality of consumer experience. “The declaration is therefore consistent with NCC’s commitment to amplify her regulatory activities towards ensuring that telecom consumers enjoy services that not only meet but exceed thier expectations”. Danbatta stated.
The EVC said the Conversation will focus on four different areas the Commission needs the consumer to act upon in exercise of his rights to protection, information and education. These are:
1. The activation of the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) 2442 Short Code dedicated for the Consumers by NCC to have FULL control over unsolicited messages and calls. 2. Use of the 622 Toll Free Number for the second layer of complaint by consumers who may not be satisfied with their service providers’ resolution of the issues earlier reported to them. 3. To inform consumers about NCC’s approaches to enhanced QoS. 4. Educating the public about the Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) radiation, an issue around which there has been a lot of misinformation in the public.
The Question and Answer session was quite enchanting and lively as many participants jostled to make commentaries on issues. College Registrar who said the closing prayer commended NCC for the initiative.
