World Cup 2018: Why we lost 2-0 to Nigeria – Iceland coach, Hallgrimsson

Iceland coach, Heimir Hallgrímsson has reacted to Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over his side in their World Cup Group D second match on Friday. Nigeria won the game to ensure they, Iceland and Argentina can all still qualify for the knockout with one game to play.

Ahmed Musa scored twice as Nigeria bounced back from their opening defeat to Croatia.

Iceland could still make it the round of sixteen if they defeat Croatia depending on the outcome of the game between Nigeria and Argentina.

Hallgrimsson spoke with reporters after the match suggesting that the hot whether somehow reduced the performance of his players.

He said, “Today, it seems nature worked against us. We did our best and the players showed character mostly in the first half when we had a lot of chances to score.

“We had some shots on target. But we failed to score. Nigeria was stronger the second half. We still have a chance to go through. It will now depends on what happens in the next game.”

On Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty miss, the coach added, “Even the greatest of football players miss penalty. Gylfi (Sigurdsson) always plays with his heart, he’s a great player.
