A former Super Eagles forward, Efan Ekoku has identified lack of urgency as the real cause of the team’s 2-0 loss to Croatia in their opening Group D game on Saturday in Kaliningrad. According to Ekoku, the players showed no urgency after they fell to Ogenekaro Etebo’s own goal.

Ekoku tweeted, “No shame in losing to Croatia.

“However, the lack of urgency is particularly worrying for a WC opening game. It was evident against England at Wembley and is becoming a reoccurring theme.”

Ekoku was a member of Super Eagles squad to the 1994 World Cup in United States of America.

He added, “Let’s put tactics aside for a minute! Fire in the belly can take you a long way, look at Iceland at the last Euros. Gernot Rohr has to inject fire into the squad somehow.”

Nigeria’s next match will be against European country, Iceland on Friday at the Volgograd Stadium.
