France defender, Raphael Varane on Sunday made history in his side’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final fixtures played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Perisic goals were not enough as goals from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe ensured that the Les Blues claimed their second World Cup trophy after winning their first in 1998 on home soil.

Varane, who was solid at the defence line for Didier Deschamps’ men, became the first player to start the World Cup final and the Champions League final and win both since Brazil legend, Roberto Carlos in 2002.

Recall that the 25-year-old won the Champions League with his club side, Real Madrid when the Spanish giants beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final in May this year.

Speaking after the game, Varane told reporters, “It’s been a great season for me. I don’t realise what I am living through. It is something enormous and fantastic.

“My career began spectacularly, and now at 25, I’ve won the World Cup. I have no words for what I feel. I hope this continues.”
