Senegal have become the first African nation to win a match at the 2018 World Cup.

The Terranga Lions coached by former captain, Aliou Cisse, produced an impressive performance to defeat Poland 2-1 on Monday.

They took the lead eight minutes before the break, through a Thiago Cionek own goal.

Mbaye Niang pounced on a bouncing ball to double Senegal’s lead in the 60th minute.

Grzegorz Krychowiak pulled one back for the Poles, but it was not enough to avoid defeat in their first game of the tournament.

Senegal play Japan next on June 24, while Poland take on Colombia.
