Croatian captain, Luka Modric has revealed what English media pundits did to his side ahead of their victory against England on Wednesday.
Modric starred as Croatia came from behind to knock England out at the semi-final stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Kieran Trippier had put the Three Lions ahead in the fifth minute goals from Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic’s strike in extra-time sealed it as Croatia played an additional 30 minutes for the third time in a row.
Many had predicted England would have the advantage as time went on. Modric has criticised the media for those thoughts.
“English journalists, pundits from television, they underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake,” Modric told ITV.
“All these words from them, we were reading and we were saying ‘ok, today we will see who will be tired.’
“They should be more humble and respectful. We showed we weren’t tired. We dominated mentally and physically.
“We should have scored before extra-time but we have to be proud now of what we have done.”
Croatia will face France in Sunday’s final (4pm) as they look for their first taste of glory on the international stage.
