World Cup 2018: How I helped Lukaku score against Tunisia – Drogba

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has revealed that Romelu Lukaku put his advice into play in the Belgium match against Tunisia on Saturday at the World Cup 2018.

Lukaku took his tally at the tournament to four goals in two games after Belgium went 3-1 up against Tunisia at half-time in their second group game.

Drogba told BBC that he worked with Lukaku at Chelsea on that technique as he went through on goal.

Drogba said, “I really like this move. We were talking about Lukaku to check and change the angle of his runs to create his own space that’s what he did there.

“He did something I really like and I spoke to him a lot about that. The short steps before kicking the ball just like a tennis player before they hit the ball – they take short steps before they hit it and it gives you more accuracy.

“He’s someone that wants to learn i’m really happy to give him advice. Obviously know he’s working with Thierry Henry and he’s learning from him. When you want to be the best you have to learn from the best.”

The Belgian idolised the former Ivorian international when he was growing up and was signed by Chelsea in 2011 as a long-term replacement for Drogba.

Lukaku spent a season under Drogba’s tutelage in the 2011-12 campaign and the veteran worked tirelessly with the youngster to improve his game

Lukaku scored his first on Saturday when he darted across the Tunisia defence before switching direction and he took a number of short steps before hitting the ball into the far right hand corner.
