World Cup 2018: De Gea finally speaks after Spain’s poor performance in Russia

Spain goalkeeper, David De Gea has sent a message to supporters of the national team following their shock defeat to Russia at the World Cup.

Spain finished top of Group B on their way to the last 16 of the 2018 World Cup but were far from convincing during their clashes with Portugal, Morocco and Iran.

Manchester United shot stopper was far from his best at the group stage and had the perfect chance for redemption in Spain’s knockout tie with Russia on Sunday.

He failed to save any of Russia’s penalties during a dramatic shootout and came under more scrutiny for his performance.

Reacting to their poor performance, he wrote on Instagram, “To whom supported, suffered and criticised us with respect, thanks.

“We’re f***ked but we’ll get up again and never give up.”

De Gea’s Manchester United teammate, Ander Herrera, who was not selected in Spain’s squad for the World Cup, replied him, saying, “Come quickly to Manchester United. We have big things to achieve ahead.”
