World Civil Defence Day: NSCDC boss preaches peace, declares readiness for polls


The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corpsn Dr. Ade Abolurin has joined his counterparts throughout the whole world to preach peace in commemoration of the 2015 World Civil Defence Day, with the theme, “Sustainable Peace Building”.

The annual event, which comes up every 1st of March, is observed by Civil Defence formation across the globe.

Dr. Abolurin used this year celebration to congratulate the Secretary General of International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) and the entire Civil Defence family all over the world for the successful hosting of the 2015 World Civil Defence Day, and thereby encouraged citizens across the globe to show love, embrace one another and promote sustainable peaceful coexistence and shun violence.

Similarly, he advised political actors, agitators and co-players in politics to embrace peace towards nation building as the 2015 general elections draw closer.

While congratulating the Corps personnel and urging them to embrace peace, Abolurin stated that “We should continue to exhibit professionalism in all our conducts, patriotism in all our activities, work to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections before, during and after and not to relent in the execution of the Corps mandate especially in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets and the protection of the Civil populace without compromise”.

He expressed the Corps gratitude Pesident Goodluck Jonathan for his total support and commitment towards the enhancement and empowerment of the Corps, the Honourable Minister of Interior Comrade Abba Moro for his developmental strides aimed at enhancing the Capacity of the Corps in the effective discharge of the Corps’ mandate as well as the National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) for his professional advise and contributions towards the growth and enhancement of the Corps.

Abolurin appreciated the general populace and all other stakeholders for their believe in the Corps, synergy, partnership and collaboration in making the Corps to succeed and achieve in the execution of her mandate.

He seized the opportunity to advised parents to caution their children to desist from anything that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the society mostly during the forthcoming general elections.

“Thuggery, vandalism, malpractices, violence are inimical to the growth of the nation and its against the law of the land, therefore they should shun all these vices and embrace peace for peace to reign, for the law is no respecter of anybody,” Abolurin says.

The Corps expressed its readiness for the elections, saying all modalities have being put in place for effective monitoring before, during and after the elections.

Meanwhile, deployment have since commenced to all identifiable black spots and with the collaborative efforts of all security apparatus, the elections will be peaceful, credible, free and fair.

NSCDC had earlier sensitized the electorates, political parties and political actors through the various town hall meetings and peace summits.
