The governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has been commended by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, for giving priority to the welfare of workers.
The commendation was given by the State NLC Chairman, Mr. Titus Abana, on Thursday in Maiduguri in an interview with newsmen.
According to Abana, despite economic challenges, Borno State government has never defaulted in the payment of salaries of workers, as well as meeting other demands.
“Workers in Borno will confidently tell you that they receive their salary before 25th of every month.
“You will also agree with me that the citizens of Borno have benefitted from various government programmes and policies in the areas of education, skill acquisition, empowerment, transportation, and housing, among others.”
He noted that the state government promptly implemented the N18,000 national minimum wage as well as salary structure approved for health workers, appealing to Governor Shettima to revive dormant industries in the state in order to further boost employment opportunities.
The NLC boss listed the industries to include the Soda Ash Plant, Wire and Nail Industry, Borno Fertiliser plant, among others.
