Ondo State workers on Tuesday in Akure marched to the office of the state’s accountant general at Alagbaka area to demand for payment of their three months salary arrears
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as: Ondo Government, where is our bailout money`’; Accountant General must go`’; N14:68bn bailout fund fixed by Mimiko`’; the hardship is getting worse`’, among others.
The protest was led by the state Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) Comrade Sunday Adeleye.
He expressed displeasure at the government’s failure to pay their salaries in spite of receiving bailout fund from the federal government.
Adeleye also gave the government 24 hours to pay all outstanding salaries and deductions to the state workers.
He also called for the removal of the state Accountant General for allegedly refusing to pay their outstanding salaries.
Addressing the protesters, Mr Toyin Akinkuotu, the state Head of Service, assured that the workers would receive their salaries soon.
Akinkuotu assured that all outstanding salaries of all workers would be paid.
He said that government would also pay their two months deductions of May and June.
According to him, government is fully committed to the payment of workers salaries and their welfare packages but must ensure that only genuine workers are paid.
Akinkuotu attributed the delay in payment to the anomalies discovered during the just concluded verification exercise in the State Civil Service.
He said that the mop up exercise was almost completed.
He commended the forthrightness and the incorruptible nature of the labour leaders in the state, adding that the labour leaders supported the state government in the verification process.
Akinkuotu urged the aggrieved civil servants to embrace peace in order to move the state forward.(NAN)
