Clad in black and black attires and bearing an usual black banner with white inscription, the workers marched with great dedication before the crowd.
As soon as they got at the spot of taking salute, they knelt down before Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, a development interpreted by many to mean that they were in dire need of employment in their own state, having been sent packing from Abia.
In a speech at the event, Governor Chime, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo commended the workers in the state for their efficiency and service delivery despite several challenges.
“As a government, we are elated that despite every odd, we have forged a common partnership with labour in the state”, he noted.
Chime expressed delight that the state now had a functional public service that would continue to thrive even long after his government had exited.
He attributed this to “the government’s continuous training and retraining of workers in the state”.
He assured workers that the state government was concerned about unresolved issues with them, stressing that those issues would be realistically tackled to the delight of all parties.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of award to Governor Chime and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odoh by the workers, for their commitment to the workers’ welfare.
