Some women and youth groups, in collaboration with physically-challenged persons on Saturday assembled in Abuja under the aegis of Harbingers of Change for Buhari to express their conviction that an All Progressives Congress, APC, government would better address the plight of vulnerable groups in Nigeria.

Representatives of the constituent groups publicly expressed this belief during a rally they organized to drum up support for the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). The rally was however coordinated by the Buhari Support Organisation, BSO.

Lamenting that youths and women had been abandoned for too long with the welfare of the persons living with disabilities in the society neglected, the group said, “Buhari represents the change that vulnerable groups in the country had yearned for in the past 15 years of democracy in Nigeria.

National Coordinator of the coalition, Hajiya Hasiya Suleiman, noted that although the present administration had done its best, it was time for Nigerians to embrace change.

“We remain committed to achieving our target of supporting Buhari till the results of the elections are announced. We have already mobilized and would keep sensitizing vulnerable persons in Nigeria to adopt the new wave that would genuinely transform Nigeria,” she said.

According to Suleiman, members of the group in the 774 local government areas of the country had mobilized resources to guarantee that their destinies and future were safeguarded.

She however appealed to those working for a Buhari presidency to eschew violence and avoid taking laws into their hands before, during and after the elections.

In her remarks, leader of the Virtuous Women International, a non-governmental organization, Hajiya Fati Muhammed, pleaded with women and persons with disabilities to support the APC ticket in the 2015 elections.

She explained that her group’s conviction about APC’s capacity to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians stemmed from its track record of achievements in some states of the federation.

Admitting that Buhari might be old as touted by his opponents, Muhammed was quick to point out that “his focus and integrity were some of the strong points that have stood him out among the other candidates.”

The women leader disclosed that the group had mobilized women and disabled persons with ethno-religious backgrounds to support the Buhari candidature at the polls.

Meanwhile, the BSO recently sponsored a medical outreach to take care of vulnerable groups and the less privileged in the society. The programme took place in Kwaita-Tsoho and adjoining communities in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
