Women in Delta community protest destruction of farmland by Fulani cows

Aradhe community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State today protested attacks on their farmland and crops by suspected fulani herdsmen.

The women in their hundreds took to the Ozoro Police Station and Isoko North Local Government headquarters separately to register their grieviances.

They barricaded the entrance to Ozoro police station with leaves, chanting “Musa leave our farm” “We don’t want Musa in our land again” Your cows are destroying our crops.”

A representative of Aradhe Community Women, Mrs.Christiana Akporeha stated that cows owned by one Musa, a fulani has destroyed all crops in their farmlands.

“Musa’s cows have destroyed all our crops and they are not only eating our cassava stem but also uprooting them. We have sometimes sent our community leaders to lay complaints to the Police and they told us that we should come by ourselves and that is why we have come.”

“We all sometimes ago, contributed money to pay for a cow that was killed by some unknown persons in our farm. Then we had a meeting between Musa and a police representative. We gave Musa a portion where his cows can graze. But his cows have been crossing the boundaries and invading our farm crops.”

Mrs Magret Edoja, Dorcas Amata, and Rachael Omoraro who also spoke with DAILY POST expressed dissatisfaction over the destruction the cows have done to their farms.

Responding to the protesting women, the Divisional Police Officer of Ozoro, CSP Ngwu Attah commended them for a peaceful conduct especially by not taking the laws into their hands.

He said, “I have received your reports, I will send it to our Police headquarters in Asaba,” noting that the Commissioner of Police has promised to invite all Hausa leaders in the state including Musa to a meeting.

CSP Attah noted that the meeting will be held at Aradhe community, stressing that top government officials in Delta State will be in attendance with Musa.

“I have been trying to reach Musa since last Thursday till now but his line is not reachable. I appeal to you all, please don’t touch any of his cows in retaliation. I assure you all that this matter will be settle soon.”
