A group of women from several communities in Enugu West Senatorial district of Enugu State have urged the Federal Government to look their direction in its ongoing Trader Money scheme.
The group, known as ‘Nnebuife United Association, Enugu West Zone’ made the appeal on the occasion of the official inauguration of the association in Awgu.
This is also as they lauded the Enugu Deputy Governor, Hon Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo and some other illustrious sons and daughters of the zone, including Chief Gbazueagu Nweke Gbazueagu, Hon Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, Hon Ejike Njeze, Comrade A.C.Ude, Mrs Ginika Florence Tor Williams, among others for their contribution that enhanced the formation of the association.
Chairperson of the group, Mrs Lolo Queen Nwankwo, in her maiden address, lamented the poverty level among rural women in the zone.
She said despite efforts by the women in the area of farming and petty trading, they achieved less due to poor financing and other social hazards.
“This is why as an association, we will henceforth reach out to the larger society and various arms of government on how to better the lots of the rural women of the zone.
“Uppermost in our agenda for the rural market women will be searching for means of letting them benefit from the Federal government’s ‘Trader Money’ scheme, under the supervision of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo,” she said.
She mentioned other mission statement of the association to include, “To mobilize and galvanize the women, sons and daughters of Enugu West district to support credible candidates for good governance of the zone. To build bridge across various political parties,societies and organizations for the collective interest of our zone.
“To educate our women, sons and daughters on the disadvantages of selling their votes as it amounts to selling their future and that of their children. To stem the tide of moral decadence in the society today. To act as watchdog to the elected political office holders in our zone, making sure that there is good governance for the benefit of our people.”
