A Landlord in Aba recently escaped death narrowly as his two-story building went ablaze in Aba, a commercial city of Abia State.
Mr Chizoba Nwachukwu, the eldest son of the Landlord, Mr. Joseph Nwachukwu, narrated that his mother was returning home when she saw the house in flames.
He informed newsmen that on getting to the scene of the fire, his mother rushed into the house to save his father, who was alone in his room before reaching out for help from neighbours.
The fire according to the account started from the apartment of a tenant and resultantly razed the building, located near Ariara International Market, at 17 Joe Express Street. While the Landlord, a victim of stroke before the blaze survived, the property, cash and other valuables were lost to the fire.
Eye-witness account revealed that rescuers could not access their flat due to electric shock and gave the cost of damage to be over N3 million including cash.
Chizoba Nwachukwu, the eldest son lamented, “every thing in our flat was completely burnt. All I have laboured for in life are no more. The only thing I have is this cloth I am wearing.’’
The fire outbreak was caused by an electric boiler said to have been left unattended to by a neighbour.
