Woman remanded in prison over murder of boyfriend


A Benue Magistrates Court sitting in Makurdi on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old business woman, Christiana Owulo for allegedly killing her boyfriend identified as Ladoga Onah.

The 40-year-old was charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, an offence that contravenes Sections 97 and 225 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004.

Testifying in court, the prosecutor, Insp. Terzungwe Kajo said the deceased’s younger brother; Johnson Onah reported the case at the Oju police station on August 20.

Kajo told the court that the matter was on August 28 transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Oju, to the CID, Makurdi.

The prosecutor said Onah was killed by unknown persons and his corpse was found at the Oju market square and his girlfriend, Christiana Owulo was later accused of killing him.

Kajo further stated that the accused slept in the same room with the deceased the day he was killed and she was later arrested in connection with the crime.

Owulo’s plea was not taken by the court for lack of jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Tsumba ordered that the 40-year-old be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Makurdi.

Tsumba adjourned the case till October 8, for further mention.
