The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 30 year-old woman as she attempted to smuggle cocaine into the country.

The officials discovered narcotics in her underwear at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

The suspect whose name was not disclosed, was caught during the inward screening of passengers on a South African Airways flight.

The suspected white powdery substance tested positive for cocaine with a gross weight of 535 grammes.

The suspect told investigators that she was promised N1m to smuggle the cocaine to Nigeria, saying she got involved in the deal because she needed the money.

NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Ahmadu Garba said the incident is being investigated and that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

NDLEA spokesman, Ofoyeju Mitchell, quoted the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd) of vowing that the agency would detect more hidden drugs and prosecute offenders.

He however assured members of the public that the Agency is determined to counter the criminal plans of drug cartels.
