Wives of Prisons officers to be engaged economically – PROWA

The Prisons Officers Wives Association (PROWA) on Sunday promised to implement a blue print on the empowerment of wives of prisons officers nationwide to get them engaged economically.

The President of the association, Mrs Elizabeth Ekpendu, made the pledge when she addressed members of the association in Benin.

She said the decision to empower the women was born out of the need for them to support their husbands and engage themselves productively.

Ekpendu disclosed that the association would build skill acquisition centres in some states command of the Nigeria Prisons Services (NIP) where members of the PROWA would be trained on various skills.

While noting that the association had continued to support infrastructural development in staff schools of NIP across the country, she stressed that the focus now was how to better the lot of women.

She, however, urged the women to be committed to the cause of PROWA for its objective to be realised.

“Employment and empowerment is what we crave for our women.

“We all know the challenges of unemployment in the country today and we want to empower our women so that they can also help in assisting their husbands.

“Apart from engaging them productively, we are also helping in tackling the problem of unemployment in the country.

“You will agree with me that this will also go a long way in making our husbands to be committed and discharge their constitutional duties accordingly”, she said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Edo chapter of PROWA, Mrs Blessing Etowa, urged the association to fashion out a way to improve the economic well being of members.

She said the chapter had contributed to the infrastructural development of staff school in Benin through proceeds from the farm centre it operates as well as monthly contribution of members. (NAN) .
