Winners emerge at 2018 Kiddies Vision Magazine for young ministers’ competition

In line with her youth engagement strategy, Kiddies Vision Magazine, organisers of the annual Young Ministers’ Competition (YMC) in collaboration with HUAXING Arts Troupe Nigeria, sponsors of the event, have produced young ministers and commissioners of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the just concluded Young Ministers Competition Grand Finale, Season 5 which held at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island.

The Young Ministers Competition was established to test Nigerian students on how well they know the country, as well as enlighten them on the functions, organs and government activities, facts and history of the country to guide them towards societal values and good governance.

Speaking on this engagement, the organizer of the program who is also the director, Kiddies Vision Magazine, Nnena Umeohia, noted that, “The competition came into being, when we realized that Nigerian students know practically nothing about their country, whereas they are quite familiar with foreign movies, cartoons, soccer, actors and so on. So, the purpose of this competition is to nurture them on excellent leadership, as well as set innovative ways of educating Nigerians through the media.”

The competition which is a 32-week television show focuses on five selected ministerial seats and commissioner seats respectively. The ministerial seats focus on selected federal portfolios and their policies which is a contest by secondary school students while the commissioner seats which focus on the same portfolio and policies at the state level is contested by primary school pupils, and students have to go through the four phases to emerge winners.

According to Nnena, the grand finale is to celebrate the growth of the initiative and to give awards to Season 5 winners of Young Ministers and Commissioners competition. We have five ministerial posts; Ministry of Education, Health; Finance, Youths and Sports, Tourism, and Arts and Culture.

Also speaking at the event, The Chief Executive Officer of Seven Stars Tissue Paper, Eric Ni noted that, I have been involved in this project since inception and with the support of my Chinese community, we shall continue to train and support the younger ones because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

The sponsors of the award prizes include: Seven Stars Tissue, Future Stars Socks and Kaway Shoes.

The details of the award prizes are below:

1. First position in all categories (ministers and commissioners) ₦100,000 x 10 winners

2. Second position in all categories (ministers and commissioners) ₦50,000 x 10 winners

3. Third position in all categories (ministers and commissioners) ₦30,000 x 10 winners

Scholarship funds of ₦20,000 was also given to 100 students. This was sponsored by the Chinese community in Nigeria.
