Two Million children were last year immunised by the Niger state government even as two wild polio cases have been recorded in the state within the last four months.
The Executive Director of Niger State Primary Health Development Agency , Dr. Shehu Yabagi made this known on Wednesady in Minna in an interview with news men.
He said that the first case was reported from Bangi area of Mariga local government of the state in April while another case was reported last month in Gulbin Boka village of the same local government.
He said that the wild polio virus resurfaced in the state after it had achieved a feat of three years free status.
He said that a team of experts from the agency has gone to under study the circumstance behind the new resurgence,stressing that one of polio victim was a child of a nomad Fulani who had since relocated out of the state.
“We have since launched a manhunt for the affected child.”He disclosed.
The executive director explained that the experts deployed to the area had since mopped up the area by immunising the children of Guibin Boka village and the surrounding communities.
He said the micro-plan of all the villages and settlement towards ensuring that they are all captured in their map. . Dr. Yabagi explained that the state was working with the two neighbouring states of Kaduna and Zamfara on how to curb the spread of the disease through the border villages and settlements.
