Wike vs Awara: INEC gives update on Rivers election, says supplementary election will still hold

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has given an update on the just-concluded collation of results in the Rivers State governorship election, which had Governor Nyesom Wike as winner.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was on Wednesday declared winner by INEC.

The State Returning Officer, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Professor Teddy Addia, declared that Governor Wike poll 886,264 votes to defeat his closest rival, Biokpomabo Awara. of the AAC, who 173,809 votes.

However, INEC in a statement by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of Information on Thursday, commended political parties and security agents for the success of exercise, which held on Wednesday.

Okoye, however, said supplementary election for House of Assembly in four LGAS will hold on April 13, 2019.

The statement read in part: “The Commission met today April 4, 2019 and reviewed the conduct of the just-concluded Rivers State collation exercise.

“The commission expresses satisfaction with the outcome and commends security agencies for their professionalism which ensured peaceful conduct and conclusion of the exercise.

“However, supplementary election will be held in affected areas on April 13, 2019 in line with the timetable released by the Commission.”
