The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that his administration, if elected, will improve basic amenities in motor parks and markets and ensure that market women and men benefit from the special business grants that he will institute.

Wike declared this yesterday during his campaign visits to Abali Motor Park, Creek Road Market, Femie and Rumuokuta markets in Port Harcourt and markets in Abuluoma, a suburb of the Rivers State capital and markets in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Wike, who was accompanied on the campaign tour by Senator George Sekibo, Mrs Blessing Nsiegbe, a member of the House of Representatives, former commissioners from Rivers State, PDP women and youth groups, said the condition of markets in the state capital was deplorable and needed urgent attention.

The PDP candidate promised that he will take immediate steps when he assumes office on May 29, to improve on the sanitary condition of the markets and parks, and build sick bays, improve on security and ensure that traders take their place in the scheme of things in the state, adding that Rivers State traders would benefit more from the PDP as they have been factored into the party’s development process as critical members, who contribute their quota to state and national development.

“I am here to interact with traders in this market because I have a comprehensive package to ensure that they get business grants in order for them to grow their businesses. I am here to assure you that my administration will enhance your standard of living,” he said during an interaction with market women at the Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt.

He urged the traders to vote PDP all the way as the All Progressives Congress, APC, had proved to be a party that has no agenda for the people of Rivers State and Nigeria, alleging that after eight years, Governor Rotimi Amaechi had enmeshed himself in corruption, using funds meant for the development of Rivers State to fund APC and his principal, General Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “Your markets are in this deplorable condition because of Amaechi. He has made it a point of duty to divert your monies for APC campaigns and to sponsor Buhari for a campaign that is bound to fail.”
