Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has paid out the sum of $60,000 to players of the Dream Team, as fulfillment of his pledge.

Wike had promised the players $30,000 for each goal scored and $100,000 if they won 3-0.

However, Samsons Siasia’s team was only able to beat Congo 2-1 in their African U-23 Championship qualifier, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The Governor praised the effort of the players at a reception hosted for the team and hailed them as one of the best Nigerian teams.

“You guys made Nigerians proud with the way you played against the Congolese; you showed that the future of Nigeria football is bright and that the NFF is on the right path in putting the country’s football on the world map,” he said.

“All I can tell you guys is that if the Congolese can score a goal here, you can do more than that in Congo in the return leg. I am proud of you and so is the generality of Nigerians.”

He also appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to continue to pick the Adokiye Amiesimaka Staidum in future.
