Wike’s allged audio clip: Police to investigate Governor, INEC officials

The Inspector-General of Police ( I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, has set up a panel to probe an alleged audio comment by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on the just concluded legislative re-run elections in Rivers.

An online medium had leaked a telephone conversation allegedly made between Wike and some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in which the Governor was trying to rig the recently concluded legislative re-run in the state.

The Force [Public Relations Officer, FPRO, DCP Don Awunah, in a statement issued Saturday said the panel would also investigate 70 incidents mentioned by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakub, during the elections.

The statement reads: “The election observers, civil society groups, Human Rights watchers and other stakeholders are equally called upon to assist the team with valuable information they may have.

“The panel headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, has 30 days to submit its report which will be made public.”

The FPRO, however enjoined the Rivers government and INEC to avail the panel with facts at their disposal to achieve a comprehensive and conclusive investigation.
