The supervising minister of education, Nyesom Wike has accused the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of playing politics with the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme, SURE-P.

Wike said this in Okehi, headquarters of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State during the inauguration of local government and ward executives of the group.

He alleged that the SURE-P fund was being given to people loyal to Governor Amaechi.

Wike also said the SURE-P fund that was released to the Rivers State government was hidden by the state government to fund 2015 elections.

The Minister proposed the return of president Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and called the people of Etche to effect their desired change in political leadership through their votes.

DialyPost reports that, members of the five anti-Amaechi Lawmakers observed one-minute silence in honour of the late former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Amaechi on empowerment has debunked Wike’s allegations, describing as untrue, claims that only persons loyal to Amaechi were benefiting from the SURE-P.

Governor Amaechi’s special adviser on empowerment and chairman of the Rivers State Strategic Committee on empowerment, Minaibi Dagogo-Jack made the clarification in Port Harcourt.

Dagogo Jack said the SURE-P fund was being given to the poor and unemployed in the state regardless of political parties adding that payments had been made to all the beneficiaries in all the 23 local government areas of the state.
