Wike playing politics with lives of Rivers people – Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has taken a swipe at the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying the governor is playing politics with the lives of people of the state.

Amaechi, who made the remark in a tweet on his twitter handle @ChibuikeAmaechi, said despite taking oath to protect lives and property, the governor has not lived up to the billing.

“Wike took an oath to protect lives and property, yet he plays politics with the lives of Rivers people. Sad, very sad,” the Minister wrote.

The Minister and Wike have always been at loggerheads for different reasons with the latest being the impounded helicopters belonging to the state government.

Wike had recently alleged that he officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari, requesting that the two armoured helicopters bought by the immediate past administration in the state be handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.

He explained that he wrote the letter following the high custom duty charged for the helicopters and the alleged refusal of the present administration to grant the Rivers State Government the waiver to clear the two armoured helicopters.

Responding to the claim, Amaechi blamed the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan and Wike for the inability of the state to take possession of the two helicopters.

The Minister disclosed that the state government under his leadership had procured the armoured helicopters to fight criminals who he said were masquerading as militants, kidnappers and all other elements.

In a statement he issued, the Minister had said, “The President Goodluck Jonathan administration frustrated and rebuffed all attempts by Amaechi and the Rivers State government to take possession of the helicopters.

“Note that the said helicopters were partly funded by the Federal Government and that would be operated and managed by federal security agencies in collaboration with the Rivers State government.”
