Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has denied a Facebook post where he purportedly likened the ruling of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to that of the Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal allegedly describing both as ‘Rape of Justice’.
Wike, in a statement signed on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu called on Nigerians to disregard the fake Facebook post criticising the judgment of the Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal judgment as he Wike does not run any such Facebook page where the uncomplimentary remarks were made.
The fake Facebook post reads:
“Rape of Justice. Election Tribunal could sit in Boko Haram main zone in Borno and Yobe whereas Rivers and Taraba’s were moved to Abuja due to security reasons. Are Yobe and Borno more secured than Rivers and Taraba? Our democrasy is crying under APC and Buhari.”
But in his reaction, the Rivers Governor urged all the social media platforms and blogs that have published the post from the fake Facebook Page, ‘Nyesom Wike’ to pull down same as it does not represent the views of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
Nwakaudu went further to state that only last week, Governor Wike at a well-publicized stakeholders meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt declared that he has never authorized any aide to make uncomplimentary remarks on the judiciary.
According to him, “The governor as a lawyer respects the judiciary and will never disparage it.
“This is yet another scheme by the opposition to use unverified social media platforms to mislead members of the public. Governor Wike will never be distracted by these unfortunate illegal political schemes.”
