A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Rivers State and former Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has on behalf of Rivers PDP and members apologized to President Jonathan and his wife over what he called “unwarranted insults” heaped on them by Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The former Minister spoke on Monday when he met with members of the PDP State Executive Council in Port Harcourt to brief them on his governorship aspiration.
He said that the APC rally in which the outgoing governor expended Rivers resources was aimed at merely promoting Amaechi’s ambition to be a running mate to the opposition party’s Presidential candidate.
Nyesom Wike appealed to President Jonathan and his wife not to take the unwarranted insults to heart as Amaechi will soon vacate the Government House and a PDP governor voted in to right all the wrongs.
He said that Nigerians and President Jonathan should understand that the untoward actions of Governor Amaechi flow from an underlying medical condition.
He challenged Governor Amaechi to subject himself to a public psychiatric test for Nigerians to ascertain the true reason behind his untoward actions and public disrespect for constituted authorities.
The PDP governorship aspirant further challenged Governor Amaechi to a public debate, where the issue of corruption will be debated.
He said that the Governor, contrary to his numerous assertions is extremely corrupt, failing to use appropriated funds for development purposes in Rivers State.
He said: “I challenge Governor Amaechi to a public debate on corruption. I will present to Nigerians the facts about his corrupt activities.
“Amaechi insults the wife of the President that he demanded money from him. That is pure falsehood. The wife of the President never met him anywhere. Rather, Amaechi’s wife collected money from all local councils and legislators for her pet project.”.
The former Minister described as untrue Amaechi’s claim that he gave him N3billion for an un-executed project, saying that the outgoing governor should provide verifiable data to prove the false claim.
Nyesom Wike said that Amaechi lacked the legal, traditional and moral authority to accuse anyone of corruption, when he had corruption written all over him.
According to Wike: “Amaechi accuses people of corruption, but the name of his senior brother is corruption. Amaechi should stop seeking attention by attacking the President and his wife, I am here, he should face me”.
He said that Governor Amaechi and majority of PDP governorship aspirants have a similar trait.
Wike said: “The other PDP governorship aspirants instead of attacking Amaechi are attacking me. On the other hand, Amaechi is also attacking me. You can see they have something in common”.
He said no matter the level of blackmail adopted by Rotimi Amaechi, PDP will win Rivers State in all elections in 2015.
He accused Amaechi of deliberately gagging the media in Rivers State, making it impossible for them to report correctly.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator George Sekibo endorsed Barrister Wike, saying that Rivers State PDP will win all elections next year.
He charged all delegates to vote Wike in the PDP governorship primary as the party needed a very strong candidate to lead it into the election.
Rivers PDP chairman, Felix Obuah promised all aspirants level playing field in the governorship primary.
Those who accompanied the governorship aspirant to the PDP secretariat include: Senator George Sekibo, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Former Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, Former Deputy Speaker Austin Opara, Hon. Evans Bipi, Chief Ferdinand Anabaraba, Chief Sergeant Awuse, Senator Adawari Pepple, Emma Anyaanwu, Betty Apiase, among others.
