As the 2019 general elections gain momentum, a former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has said he is not bothered by the number of politicians that has left him.
Amaechi spoke at an event to mark the birthday of the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Peterside in Port Harcourt.
He said was not unusual for politicians to break their loyalty after their benefactor leaves office.
Amaechi who is now the Minister of Transportation also said he has always known that the likes of Senator Magnus Abe, Gabriel Pidomson and Nwuke Anucha who he described as his closed friends would desert him.
“There are only two people I can refer to as my boss: Sir Rufus Ada-George and Dr. Peter Odili but every other politician whether relevant or not is my boy.
“They were all under me. Mention them: Wike, Austin Opara, Pidomson, Magnus, just name them.
“But there is something I know that as a politician immediately you leave office those who were under you will abandon you immediately you leave office.
“On the Governorship issue, they are running to the President because they know I am close to the President.
“The only thing they need to hear is for the President to simply say Amaechi is my son in whom I am well pleased and you will see how they will all come back.
“They are trying their luck because they now have access to the President or because they know people who have access to the President.
“Time will tell,” Amaechi said.
