Wife drags husband to court over assault in Ekiti

A 28-year-old housewife, Yemi Ogunkile yesterday dragged her husband, Alaba Lawrence before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly hitting her with iron rod on the head.

It was gathered that the union between the complainant, Yemi and her husband was blessed with three boys.

Testifying in court, the Prosecutor, Sgt Caleb Leranmo, said the accused committed the offence on July 27, at Textile area of Ado-Ekiti.

Leranmo told the court that the accused on the fateful day unlawfully hit his wife with an iron rod, thereby causing a deep-cut on her head.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 355 of the Criminal Code,Cap C16 ,Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

When the charges were read, Lawrence however pleaded not guilty to the two counts brought against him.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Tunde Olayemi, asked the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate, Ropo Adegboye consequently granted Lawrence bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum while adjourning the case to August 12 for mention.
