Widows of soldiers who recently fell to Boko Haram fighters’ bullets were yesterday presented with relief materials by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The Director in charge of search and rescue operations of the Agency, Air Commodore Chris Otegba, handed over the relief materials to Maj.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, who is the GOC 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, for onward distribution to the affected widows.
Otegba, who represented the Director-General of NEMA, Sani Sidi, noted while presenting the materials that the action was in line with directives given by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, “We are here on the directives of President Goodluck Jonathan to present relief materials to widows of slain officers of the division.
“The idea is to lend support to the widows who lost their bread winners.
“The President directed that we should also lend support to the widows in addition to what we have been providing to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, to boost the morale of soldiers currently uprooting the insurgents.” Otegba said.
Maj.-Gen. Adeosun while receiving the materials thanked NEMA for the gesture shown towards the widows and assured that the items would be distributed without prejudice.
