Why we want to revive Awolowo, MKO’s parties — Falae, Fasehun

A Former Minister and presidential candidate, Chief Olu Falae and founder of the O’odua Peoples Congress, OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasheun, have stated that plans are on top gears to revive the defunct political parties formed by the late MKO Abiola and Chief Obafemi Awolowo to give the electorate an alternative in 2015.

While Falae is championing revival of the now rested Social Democratic Party, SDP, that produced the acclaimed winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election, late Chief Moshood Abiola, the OPC boss is leading the comeback of Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

According to Falae, SDP has been re-registered and a new certificate had since been issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He added that the party was partnering with 16 other opposition parties, which were currently in merger talks.

He said, “The Social Democratic Party has been revived and it is at the forefront of Nigerian politics. If you don’t belong to PDP or APC, SDP is available. It once ruled Nigeria. It controlled the Senate and House of Representatives, and had 22 governors out of 30.

“The party is back and registered with INEC. It is available as an alternative to PDP and APC. These parties are going to work with SDP and we are consolidating to make SDP the third force in Nigerian politics.”

Also speaking, Fasheun said UPN, which was processing its registration with INEC, would be launched before the year runs out.

He said unlike other political parties where its leaders are greedy, UPN would focus on the welfare of the citizenry.

“We have our ideology. We will not be a political party looking into the air. We are purely social welfare organisation,” Fasehun stated.

Meanwhile, Faseun has also called on politicians and individuals making provocative statements to have a rethink, saying, “Only God knows who will be around in 2015.’’

Faseun also said the OPC was committed to the ideals of the Yoruba race, and that those linking it with terrorism were ignorant of the group’s objectives.
