The Benue State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Bashir Makama, says the heavy deployment of police and army officers in Katsina-Ala Local Government is to restore law and order.

Makama told newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday that the officers were in the local government to stem criminal activities in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state has witnessed a resurgence of kidnapping and armed robbery especially in Katsina-Ala, Logo and Ukum local government areas.

He said that the security of lives and property was the primary objective of the force.

“Our officers are in the local government to provide law and order in the state. We must protect lives and property of the innocent people living in the area.

“Robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities are happening daily along the Benue/Taraba express road leading to loss of lives and property in the state.

“We are going to do everything within our powers to ensure that all lives and property are protected,’’ he said.

Makama urged the public to go about their normal businesses, adding that the force would welcome useful security tips. (NAN)
