The Delta State Police Command on Friday said it is inviting Fulani herdsmen for a meeting on Sunday.
The police said the meeting was part of the pro-active measures by the command to maintain peace and security in the state.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relation officer of the state command, DSP Andrew Animaka.
Animaka told DAILY POST on Friday that the meeting was aimed at ending the menace of herdsmen/ residents clashes.
The PPRO was responding to DAILY POST inquiry on reports that some hoodlums barricaded the Ohorhor-Bomadi road in the state.
It was gathered that some hoodlums, suspected to be herdsmen on Thursday took over the Ohorhor-Bomadi Road, Delta state for over 45 minutes, unleashed mayhem on passengers and dispossessed them of their goods and valuables.
Ohorhor-Bomadi Road serves as a major road linking many Ijaw communities in Bomadi and part of Burutu Local Government areas of the state.
Confirming the report, the PPRO told DAILY POST: “If it is around Ohorhor road like you said, then yes.
“We got a report that hoodlums barricaded the road and attempted to dispossess passengers of their belongings and harass innocent passersby.
“But we got the information early and swiftly deployed our men to the scene.
“They responded to action immediately.
“So to get our heads off this herdsmen, we have decided to call for a meeting with them.
“We are inviting them for a meeting on Sunday at the Officers’ Mess in Ogbe.”
