The reason why Switzerland played major role in the release of the 82 Chibok girls has been revealed.
Recall that 82 of the female secondary school students abducted in Chibok, Borno State were freed on Friday, after much negotiation.
The revelation was made by the Spokesperson of Switzerland Foreign Ministry, Noemie Charton.
The country was fully involved in negotiations that secured the release of 82 girls abducted by Islamic terror group Boko Haram from their school dormitory in Chibok, Borno State in 2014.
Charton told IBTimes UK that it was “at the request of Nigeria” and due to “humanitarian concerns.”
Nigeria thanked Switzerland, the International Committee of the Red Cross as well as local and international NGOs for helping secure the release of the girls.
He added, “Switzerland’s engagement in this operation was guided by the principles of strict neutrality and non-interference.”
Charton added that Switzerland is calling for the release of the rest of the Chibok girls still held captive by the group.
