Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), on Monday, described the suspension of Gov, Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “politically unfair”.
The Executive Director of CISLAC, Mr Auwal Musa-Rafsanjani, who spoke in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, faulted APC leadership’s decision to suspend the two governors.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had, on March 1, suspended the two governors alongside the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru, and Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, for alleged anti-party activities.
At the meeting presided over by the party’s National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, the NWC recommended to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party that the suspended individuals be expelled.
Musa-Rafsanjani, reacting, said the timing of the governors’ suspension was wrong in as much as the party has the right to discipline its members.
“First and foremost, we believe that the party has the right to decide on what they want to do.
“However, we have noted a lot of lack of internal democracy in the conduct of the political party.
“So the decision to really suspend these two governors now, we do not think it is healthy in terms of party’s workings and formation,’’ he said.
According to CISLAC boss, the NWC should have actually allowed the governors to respond to the queries it issued before handing them the suspension.
“I think it is not a good idea to have suspended them because the governors are critical stakeholders in the party and they have all worked to ensure the success of the party at the presidential level,’’ he said.
Musa-Rafsanjani described the NWC’s action as “political injustice.’’
“We think it is politically unfair,’’ he added
