A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senatorial aspirant for Enugu North District, Mr. Chinedu Eya has called on the party not to give a fresh ticket to the incumbent Senator Chukwuka Utazi.
Eya spoke at the PDP zonal office, Nsukka in Enugu State, where he formally declared his intention to run for the Senatorial election in 2019, under the platform of the party.
He said Utazi had not been complimenting the efforts of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, an action he intends to take if given opportunity to be in the Senate.
According to him, “the governor cannot do it alone; he needs to be complemented by Federal lawmakers; when that happens, you see that our place will develop rapidly. But that kind of mindset is currently lacking in the representation we have at the moment.”
He vowed to lead a change that will bring aggressive empowerment programmes through partnership with multinational companies outside the shores of the country, so as to help alleviate the plight of the underprivileged in the zone.
He also promised to deploy his allowances to the service of the zone, assuring that he will work with agility in every strata of the zone, depending on the needs of the areas involved.
“I will not just be a voice to the zone at the Red Chamber; I will touch everybody’s life through partnerships with industries outside our shores,” Chinedu told the PDP zonal executives.
“I remember as an ordinary Nigerian how I signed a pact that allowed the influx of the Chinese in the Eastern part of the country; with emphasis to Enugu and Ebonyi State,” he said.
He further disclosed he has “already penciled down over 25 bills ready for sponsorship on his assumption of office.”
In his response, the zonal chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Mike Nze Onyeze commended Eya’s courage and congratulated him for taking a step to meet with the Party’s stalwarts at the zonal level.
While enjoining the aspirant to fight till the end as power belongs to God, the PDP chieftain also begged Eya to see the contest as a family deal.
“People will be talking, and God will be talking. But God has the final say. Nothing is impossible before God,” the chairman said.
“I will continue to encourage you to fight to finish,” he noted.
In his own remark, the Party’s zonal youth leader, Hon. Jide Obi praised Eya’s fighting zeal, while assuring him of the support of youths in the area.
