The President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Thursday disclosed why he and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara visited the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that Saraki and Dogara met with the Acting President behind closed doors.
Addressing State House Correspondents after the closed door meeting with the Acting President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Saraki said Osinbajo briefed them on the state of Nigerian troops sent to The Gambia.
According to Saraki, “The acting President briefed us on our troops in The Gambia and what the situation is like. And that the Navy and the Air Force will be coming back very soon. And that it is likely some troops will be left behind.”
While Saraki’s Thursday visit makes it the second, Dogara’s was the third time of meeting with the Acting President.
Dogara had first visited Osinbajo on Monday in company of the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
Both principal officers of the National Assembly on Tuesday visited the acting President.
Addressing reporters at the end of the Tuesday’s meeting, the President of the Senate had said his visit to the Presidential villa was not unconnected with the 2017 budget defense.
