Manchester United Manager, Jose Mourinho, says Captain Wayne Rooney, may not be available for the English Football League, EFL, Cup final against Southampton at Wembley on Sunday.
Mourinho told news conference that neither Rooney nor defender Phil Jones would be able to play in Wednesday’s Europa League game at Saint-Etienne.
The former Chelsea boss said, “Rooney is injured. Jones is injured. I don’t think they will recover [for Wednesday].
“Rooney and Jones haven’t trained with the team yet, so I don’t think they will be there for Wednesday.”
When asked about Rooney’s availability for the Wembley showpiece, he added, “I don’t know.”
The former Inter Milan coach, however, confirmed that goalkeeper, David De Gea and defender, Antonio Valencia were rested in the FA Cup win against Championship club Blackburn Rovers and would be in contention for Saint-Etienne.
