Why Pogba played badly against Liverpool – Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has spoken about Paul Pogba’s average performance against Liverpool on Sunday and claims the midfielder was struggling to cope with Reds defender, Dejav Lovren.

Pogba endured a miserable game at Old Trafford, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The world’s most expensive player, gave away a penalty in the first half, after he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

James Milner stepped up and gave Liverpool the lead. United eventually levelled late in the game through Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Paul had difficulties with Lovren in the air, that’s part of the game,” Mourinho said after the game.

On why he brought on Marouane Fellaini instead of Anthony Martial as his last substitution, Mourinho told Sky Sports: “I had Rashford to play, it was between Rashford and Marouane.

“I felt Liverpool were playing really defensive so I looked to the bench. I decided to go with Marouane and Zlatan to put pressure on the Liverpool defence.”

The result leaves United 6th in the table, 12 points away from league leaders Chelsea.
