Why Nigerians have negative perception of Buhari – NADECO chieftain, Obioha

A chieftain of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Chief Ralph Obioha, has revealed how President Muhammadu Buhari failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Obioha, who is an ex-member of the House of Representatives, said Buhari’s inability to respect federal character principle, disarm Fulani herdsmen, fight corruption without partiality, and his poor communication skill led to his negative perception among Nigerians.

He said, in an interview with New Telegraph newspaper, “Nigeria was in a terrible mess when Buhari assumed power and we saw some sanity in government after he took over. But he has not performed to the people’s expectation.

“He has not done well in areas where he shouldn’t have made mistakes and that is in federal character appointments. The way herdsmen whether Fulani, Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo are perpetrating killings in Nigeria is very wrong and government’s response to it is below expectation.

“How can herdsmen carry AK47 riffles? How do you justify the damage they are doing to the farm lands, which are the livelihood of some people? Any fair minded Nigeria will condemn it in the strongest terms.

“He has also failed in the corruption war. The economy was really down when he assumed office, but the question is: Did he apply corrective measures after two years in office? Some people will argue that we are in recession because of the fall in the price of crude oil and to correct things a lot of funding has to be deployed and the resources are scarce.

“Some people also say that his utterances and rhetoric may have frightened investors because you must have foreign investors in order to get your economy robust again. So, in those areas he has failed. Also I saw weakness in the way he conveys his messages. They have not been able to inform Nigerians adequately on what they found and what they are doing.”
