The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district and Chairman of Senate Committee on Foreign and Local Debt, Shehu Sani has expressed concern over the spate of execution of Nigeria nationals over crimes committed abroad.
He said foreign embassies and consulates are hit by paucity of funds, thereby making it impossible for them to provide legal services for citizens who are standing trial in foreign lands.
The lawmaker, who wrote on his Facebook page, explained: “Nigerian embassies and consulates are not adequately funded to be able to handle legal issues involving our citizens in foreign countries.”
“Those in the habit of committing crime should know that they are on their own.”
Sani advised those with criminal intents to avoid countries with functional judicial system, saying they would face gallows if they were caught in criminal acts.
“Avoid crime and avoid countries with functional gallows,” he wrote.
