Super Eagles skipper and Chelsea’s midfielder, John Obi Mikel may be leaving the Stamford outfit by January but definitely not on a loan deal, according to FIFA rules.

The Nigerian captain has been dropped out of the first team at Chelsea since Italian coach, Antonio Conte arrived the London club.

The midfielder is most likely to leave the team in January in search of first team football, with French club, Marseille, Inter Milan of Italy and three Chinese clubs jostling for his signature.

Going by FIFA regulations as revealed by Own Goal, a player in the final six months of his deal can’t leave on loan to another team, and Mikel is in the final six months of his contract at Chelsea after 11 trophy-laden years at the club.

It is, however, believed that Mikel wants to remain in Europe, due to family reasons instead of a move to China where he will definitely earn more.
