Why Kidnapping, cultism have taken over Delta State – CDHR

The Delta State Chapter of the Committee for Defense for Human Right, CDHR, today caused serious vehicular traffic in Warri and its environs as it identified unemployment and idleness among youths as the reason for the increase in kidnapping, cultism and other social vices in Delta State, Nigeria.

Members of the CDHR who carried placards with inscriptions such as “Say no to Cultism”, “drug abuse”, “prostitution”, “enough of police extortion” ,”we don’t want army brutality” among others matched through major streets in Warri and its environs in company of men of the Nigeria Police Force, in a sensitization campaign against kidnapping, cultism and other social vices.

The CDHR visited institutions such as Petroleum Training Institute,PTI Effurun, Federal University of Petroleum Resources,FUPRE and others preaching against social vices.

Speaking on behalf of its members, the Delta State CDHR Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Prince-Taiga charged the youths to be creative and self reliant, stressing that there is no country where government provides job for everybody.

“They should discover their talents and utilize same profitably instead of waiting for government’s employment.”

Taiga also charged the youths to shun cultism, kidnapping, prostitution, drug abuse, and other social vices, saying indulging in such negative acts is digging one’s own grave.

Taiga noted that it is common that youths in higher institution are prone to kidnapping, cultism, prostitution, drug abuse and other social vices which have led to untimely death of many souls.

” we charge all the youths in Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general to shun all these social vices because they are inimical to their lives.”

Taiga also appealed to Federal and State Governments to provide the enabling environment for private businesses to thrive as well as revive ailing industries like Delta Steel Company, Ovwian Aladja to help provide employment for its teeming youths.
