It has emerged that Obafemi Martins, who recently moved to Levante of Spain, may not be picked to represent Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations next year. This is according to sources close to coach Stephen Keshi, who say he has selected the forwards he will take to South Africa.

“Martins may not make it to AFCON next year. Keshi has completed his list of attackers for the Nations Cup,” the source told futaa.com on Monday.

The source also insisted that the only way the former Newcastle and Wolfsburg hitman, will be considered, is if one of the chosen forwards pick up any injury.

“Keshi has placed him on standby, just incase anything happens to the listed players,” the source added.

Martins featured recently for the Super Eagles against Venezuela in a friendly game, but it is believed that Keshi wasn’t impressed by his performance.
