The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was faced with the difficulty of paying salaries when it took over government.

Speaking at an event in Lagos State, the former Rivers governor explained that the difficulty in paying salaries was due to the rot inherited from the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan which was unimaginable.

Amaechi, however, said he would not like to comment much on the rot because he would not want to “break the oath of secrecy.”

According to Amaechi, “If you know the amount of rot we met when we came in, it was so bad that it was difficult to pay salaries.”

On the challenges being faced by the current administration, the Minister said the government was working towards empowering Nigerians and providing social amenities.

Amaechi assured that the nation had passed through the phase of finding it difficult to pay salaries, adding that measures were also being put in place to tackle other challenges being faced by Nigerians.
