Why I won’t appear before senate again on Wednesday – Customs boss, Ali

The Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, Hameed Ali, on Tuesday said he will not appear before the Senate on Wednesday.

In a media parley with Editors in Abuja, the Custom boss explained that his decision not to appear before the senate was based on a writ of summons he received on a case filed by a lawyer at an Abuja court.

Ali noted that it would be subjudice for him to appear before the Senate on the pending issues before them which were also part of what was before the court.

He said: “Based on the advice from lawyers and briefing from the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice who is also a party in the suit, I won’t be appearing before the Senate tomorrow until the court decides otherwise”.

The Customs boss who had once refused appearing before the senate, however recanted last week.

Ali shocked the Upper Legislative Chambers after he refused to appear in uniform before it to defend the controversial policy on payment of duties for old vehicle in uniform.

Following his refusal to wear his Customs uniform during his appearance at the senate during plenary, Senators had last week walked out on him.
